Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group is studying the possibility of introducing its business-to-business (B2B) platform in Brazil, providing more opportunities for Brazilian firms to tap into the Chinese market.

The possibility was raised recently by Lucas Peng, business director of AliExpress, in an e-commerce forum held in the Brazilian city of São Paulo, reported online media outlet Macauhub, citing the Brazilian press.

AliExpress is the global online retail service of Alibaba Group.

Mr Peng said the B2B platform – 1688.com – would allow Brazilian brands “to connect to a market comprising more than 40,000 Chinese store operators”.

The platform would also allow Brazilian firms access to financing and logistics, he added.

According to the report, AliExpress is now Brazil’s fourth-biggest e-retailer, with 16.9-million site visits per month.
