Midea, one of the largest domestic appliance manufacturers in the world and leader in air conditioning equipment, launched in Pouso Alegre, in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the works of its first 100%-owned plant in Brazil. The Chinese company will invest BRL 600 million in the unit, which is expected to generate 700 jobs when it starts operating in July 2024.
Present in more than 200 countries, Midea has more than 160,000 employees around the world and approximately 1,500 in Brazil. As of 2024, Midea Indústria do Brasil (MIDB), as the factory in Minas will be called, will have the capacity to produce 1.3 million products per year, starting with two-door frost-free refrigerators.
Held on the 12th of April, the official ceremony that marked the beginning of the works was attended by Chinese executives from the company and representatives of the government of Minas Gerais, Invest Minas and the municipality of Pouso Alegre.
