The Chinese company CALB (China Aviation Lithium Battery Technology), the sixth largest producer of batteries for electric cars in the world, has advanced with a contract to reserve 90 hectares in Sines for the installation of a battery factory in Portugal, according to “Público” , quoting the president of the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP), Filipe Santos Costa.
“The process is underway, and an application has already been submitted to AICEP for the classification of this investment project as Potential of National Interest”, said Filipe Santos Costa.
This official does not, however, advance the values of CALB’s investment in Sines. It should be recalled that the company’s memorandum of understanding with the Portuguese State was signed on the 3rd of November, 2022, a memorandum that already provided for the reservation of surface rights. It is now known that there are 90 hectares (about 83 football fields) and that they are destined to build a world-class factory, highly intelligent, computerized, autonomous and has zero carbon.
