Despite a year-on-year drop during 2015 in its oil sales to China, Angola climbed two spots from April to become that country’s second largest oil supplier during May, news agency Bloomberg reported.
The African nation sold 3.26 million tonnes of oil to China last month, a 3.73 percent fall from the previous year but up 14 percent from April, according to data published by China’s General Administration of Customs this week.
The ranking of Angola rose, as Saudi Arabia and Iran sold less oil to China in May, according to the report.
In the first five months of this year, Angola exported 15.98 million tonnes of oil to China, an 11.84 percent decline judged year-on-year. Nonetheless it confirmed Angola as China’s second largest oil supplier with a market share of 11.94 percent.
Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos visited China earlier this month to strengthen bilateral relations. The oil-reliant economy of the African nation sells about half of its crude to China.
