The Government of Mozambique collected more revenue than budgeted for full-year 2014, while spending a smaller amount than forecast, preliminary official data show.

The Government collected total revenue of 156.2 billion meticais (US$4.4 billion), 2.1 percent above its budgeted figure, said the Minister for Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleane, quoted by local newspaper Notícias.

Expenses stood at 249.1 billion meticais, representing 83.2 percent of the amount budgeted.

The country still had a budget deficit of 92.9 billion meticais for full-year 2014.

Mozambique’s gross domestic product (GDP) for full-year 2014 – judged at market prices – grew by 7.4 percent year-on-year in real terms, the country’s National Statistics Institute announced earlier this month.
