A Delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao visiting Timor-Leste, met on December 4 the Executive Director of TradeInvest Timor-Leste, Arcanjo da Silva.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General of Forum Macao, Xu Yingzhen, showed her appreciation for the support provided by TradeInvest Timor-Leste – as Forum Macao’s Focal Point in Timor Leste – to the work of Forum Macao. She thanked Mr Silva for his participation in the “Seminar on the 15th Anniversary of Forum Macao”, held in Macao in March 2018, during which he provided constructive suggestions regarding the development of Forum Macao.

Ms Xu also made a presentation about the latest activities of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, stressing the need to – in partnership with Timor-Leste – strengthen trade and economic promotion, and make all necessary arrangements for the 6th Ministerial Conference of Forum Macao.

Mr Silva welcomed the visit by the Forum Macao delegation, and stated TradeInvest would continue to cooperate with Forum Macao and actively participate in the latter’s events.

The Forum Macao delegation then met with representatives from local firms and local business associations, including: Câmara de Comércio e Indústria de Timor-Leste; Associação Empresarial Timor-Leste-China; Associação Empresarial das Mulheres de Timor-Leste; and União de Pequenas Empresas de Timor-Leste. Representatives from Forum Macao’s Focal Point in Timor-Leste also attended the event. During the meeting, a representative from the China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund gave a presentation on the fund’s mission, its project selection criteria, and the project application process, and then answered questions on those matters, raised by the Timor-Leste business representatives.

The meeting marked the end of the visit to Timor-Leste by the Forum Macao delegation. It was the first visit to the country by a Forum Macao delegation since the new Government was sworn into office, and also the first visit to Timor-Leste in five years. It helped strengthen exchanges and interaction between Forum Macao, the Government of Timor-Leste and several sectors of the country’s economy.
