A delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), led by Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Rodrigo Brum, visited Guangzhou, in Guangdong Province, from April 14 to 15, to participate in the 123rd China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair). The aim of the visit was to promote trade and economic cooperation between businesses from Mainland China, Macao and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, and to boost exchanges within the Greater Bay Area, in order to support national development.

The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and the China Foreign Trade Centre – the latter being the organiser of Canton Fair – maintain a close relationship. The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao’s participation in the Canton Fair is an important initiative in promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as it facilitates the entry of companies from the latter places into the Mainland China market. Such participation also promotes investment by businesses from Mainland China in Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao organises each year a delegation to take part in Canton Fair and has set up a stand at the annual event. The stand helps to promote Portuguese-speaking Countries’ business and investment environments. At the same time, the stand helps to promote Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Via participation in Canton Fair, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao aims to foster closer economic and trade ties between Mainland China, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries. It also aims to align Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries with the Belt and Road national initiative.
