The 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will be held from October 14 to 22. The opening ceremony will take place on October 17, at 6pm, at the Tromba Rija restaurant in the Macau Tower.
The Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries is jointly organised by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and co-organised by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office. The event is also supported by the following organisations: IPOR – Portuguese Institute of the Orient; Angola-Macau Association; Association Macau ‘Casa do Brasil’; Macau-Cape Verde Friendship Association; Association of Cultural Entertainment of Goa, Damão and Diu; Association of the Guineans, Natural and Friends of the Guinea-Bissau; Mozambique Friends’ Association; Macanese Association; Macau ‘Casa de Portugal’; Association of São Toméan and Friends of São Tomé and Príncipe-Macau; and Macau-Timor Friendship Association.
Under the theme “One Belt, One Road”, the content of this year’s edition of the Cultural Week aims to strengthen Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and to promote cultural exchanges between China and those countries.
The event will bring together a total of 150 invited guests, comprising music and dance performers, artists, chefs, artisans and theatre actors. They represent nine Portuguese-speaking Countries and regions (Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, East Timor, São Tomé and Príncipe, the Indian state of Goa, and the Indian Union Territories of Damão and Diu); as well as the city of Baise, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; and Macao.
These efforts further strengthen the role of Macao as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, including the strengthening of exchanges relating to language learning and culture.
This year’s edition of the Cultural Week will feature five main activities: 1. ‘World of Flavours’ from Portuguese-speaking Countries (gastronomy); 2. Handicraft & Art Fair of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; 3. Theatre Shows by troupes from Portuguese-speaking Countries; 4. Music and Dancing Performances from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; 5. Contemporary Art Exhibitions from Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Macao, as well as an animated exhibition from Brazil.
For the first time, artisans taking part in this year’s Cultural Week will also have their items displayed at, respectively, the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) – PLPEX” and the “Macao International Trade and Investment Fair”, thus strengthening Macao’s role as a cultural exchange platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
The Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – an annual event – was devised in 2008. It highlights the importance attached by Forum Macao to cultural exchanges between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries and aims to deepen Macao’s role as a platform between China and those countries.
