Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao visits Portugal

A delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), led by Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng, visited Portugal from June 14 to 16. During its stay in Portugal, the delegation visited the Chinese ambassador to Portugal, Mr Zhao Bentang, the Secretary of the Department for the Economy of the Ministry of Economy and Maritime Affairs of Portugal, Mr Pedro Cilínio, the Director General for Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Mr Rui Vinhas. In addition, it also had meetings with the President of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCILC), Mr António Noronha, the head of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Agency of Foreign Investment and Commerce (AICEP), Ms Cristina Pucarinho, and the representative of the Portugal-China Small and Medium Enterprises Chamber of Commerce. The delegation also visited the Centre for Excellence and Innovation in the Automotive Industry (CEiiA) and the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CiiMar).


During the meeting, the delegation exchanged views with the relevant parties on the role Forum Macao has played over the past 20 years in strengthening official relations, increasing economic and trade cooperation and fostering cultural exchanges. They also discussed the upcoming major duties of the Permanent Secretariat and the preparation of the 6th Ministerial Conference. All parties agreed to continue to make use of the multilateral mechanism of Forum Macao and Macao’s role as a platform to seize the new opportunities brought about by Macao’s adequate economic diversification strategy, the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, in a bid to jointly promote greater cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in scientific and technological innovation, modern finance, health industry, blue economy, cultural and sports exchanges and other fields.


The meeting was attended by: Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Paulo Jorge Rodrigues do Espírito Santo; Deputy Secretary-General, Mr Casimiro de Jesus Pinto; Coordinator of the Support Office, Ms Teresa Mok; Portuguese Liaison of Forum Macao, Mr Rui Pedro Conceição Reis Pereira; Representative of Portugal, Ms Márcia Cordeiro Guerreiro; and Advisor of the Executive Office, Ms Li Jiabei.
