The Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Mr Yao Jian; and the Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office, Mr Kou Ming, on August 25 visited the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), also known as Forum Macao.


The Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Chang Hexi, welcomed Mr Yao, expressing his gratitude for the consideration, guidance and support shown by the Liaison Office over the years.


Mr Chang briefed Mr Yao on the work done by the Permanent Secretariat during the first half of 2015. The Secretary-General also gave a presentation on the work planned for the second half of the year, including the activities related to the co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in the areas of economy, trade, human resources and cultural exchanges. Mr Chan spoke also about the role of Forum Macao, and of Macao generally, as a service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.


During the visit, Mr Yao said that the Central Government attaches great importance to Macao’s “One Centre, One Platform” development strategy, as well as to the appropriate diversification of Macao’s economy. He added that more guidelines for the development of Macao should be included in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan.


Mr Yao additionally said that the Macao Government and the Portuguese-speaking Countries had shown constant support for the work performed by Forum Macao. The Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office applauded the work done by Forum Macao in the past 12 years, acknowledging that more exchanges and information sharing about co-operation and promotion plans would enhance the establishment of the platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.


Mr Yao highlighted three important tasks to develop such relationships, namely: strengthening of promotion channels; taking advantage of Central Government policies in order better to develop the role of Macao as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; and striving to complete important and difficult assignments, making use of Macao’s advantages to promote co-operation between Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao.


Also attending the meeting were the Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Vicente de Jesus Manuel; the Coordinator of the Executive Office of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Ms Zhang Jie; as well as staff from the Supporting Office of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and from the Liaison Office.
