The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) – also known as Forum Macao – and the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) are jointly organising a ‘Workshop on Teaching and Training of Bilingual Speakers for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries’.

The event is supported by Macao’s Tertiary Education Services Office and will take place at MPI’s Auditorium 1 on September 7 and 8.

The seminar’s main theme is: “The importance of language in economic relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries – the role of Macao in training bilingual speakers”.

The organisers have invited the following to join the event: representatives from several academic institutions; Portuguese language scholars in tertiary education institutions in China and overseas; officials from the relevant departments from Portuguese-speaking countries; and representatives from Macao’s commercial and industrial sectors.

The workshop aims to offer participants a platform for exchanges between the academic and business sectors on teaching methods for the training of bilingual professionals to meet the business world’s needs. The event will focus on the special advantages offered by Macao and the city’s bilingual environment (Portuguese and Chinese) in this field. This is in order to consolidate Macao’s role as a service platform to promote trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and advance Macao’s “One Centre, One Platform” development strategy.
