The third session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) began yesterday, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China.

The CPPCC is the country’s top political advisory body.

The 2,153 members of the CPPCC National Committee will discuss major issues concerning the country’s development during the annual session. The focus is likely to be on economic reforms and efforts to crack down on corruption, an issue high on President Xi Jinping’s ‘to do’ list.

Thursday sees the start of China’s annual meeting of the National People’s Congress, the country’s top legislature, also in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. A total of 2,964 delegates will attend.

On the opening day, Premier Li Keqiang will announce key economic targets for 2015.
