On November 26, the People's Republic of China donated 1,000 tons of rice to the Guinean government to offset the negative consequences on the lives of rural communities caused by the heavy rains that fell in the country this year.
The Guinea-Bissau's Minister for Women, Family and Social Solidarity, Maria Inácia Sanhá, said that the aid had come at a time when some areas of the country, especially rural areas, were facing food shortages as a result of the floods that had affected their crops.
The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Yang Renhuo, said that food security is a major challenge throughout the world and that this donation was made to help Guinea-Bissau deal with and face this challenge.
Yang Renhuo stated that, for the future, China is willing to work with Guinea-Bissau to expand practical cooperation in various fields, including food security, to develop the Guinean economy and achieve mutual benefits and common development.
