Brazil exports 46.2% more to the EU and 14.1% more to China

Boosted by shipments of oil, unroasted coffee and Brazilian soybean meal, the volume exported by Brazil to the European Union jumped 46.2% in April 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Foreign Trade Indicator (Icomex) released on May 16 by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Ibre/FGV).


As for Brazil's other main trading partners, exports to the United States grew by 22% in April, in volume, and advanced by 14.1% to China. 


Brazil's trade balance in April amounted to US$ 9 billion, leading to a surplus of US$ 27.7 billion in the January-April period, US$ 4.1 billion more than in the first four months of 2023.


China maintained its lead in the ranking of contributions to the Brazilian trade surplus, with a balance of US$ 13.9 billion, followed by the other Asian countries, with US$ 3.4 billion, the other South American countries, with US$ 2.0 billion, and the United States, with US$ 412 million. The balance of trade with the European Union, on the other hand, shows a deficit for Brazil of US$ 817 million.
