On May 2, the University of Coimbra (UC), Renmin University of China (RUC) and the University of Macau (UM) entered into a partnership for academic and scientific cooperation. The memorandum of understanding between the UC and the two prestigious institutions was signed by the Rector of the UC, Amílcar Falcão, the Chairman of the Board of the RUC, Zhang Donggang, and the Rector of the UM, Yonghua Song, at a ceremony held in the Senate Room of the UC, which was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, Zhao Bentang.
The agreement provides, among other things, for joint teaching and research activities, the exchange of students, teachers, researchers and staff and the participation or co-organization of academic events (such as seminars, symposia or conferences).
The celebration of the tripartite partnership between the University of Coimbra, Renmin University of China and the University of Macau was the main point on the program of the visit to UC by a delegation from RUC (one of China's largest universities), led by Zhang Donggang.
