Macau's Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) announced on the 13th of December that it is negotiating a new round of funding for joint scientific research with its Portuguese counterpart.

The fund's president, Che Weng Keong, said that "it will continue active contacts with Portugal's Foundation for Science and Technology [FCT] (...) to support co-operation between scientific researchers on both sides and strengthen exchanges", according to a statement.

The two organisations signed an agreement in February 2017, valid for three years, to jointly fund scientific cooperation projects bringing together universities or scientific institutions from Macau and Portugal.

However, the implementation of the agreement was pending the setting of a budget and the selection of themes to move forward, something that only happened at the beginning of 2019.
