Newly inaugurated Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Chinese National People’s Congress Standing Committee Vice-chairman Ji Bingxuan will meet in Brasilia today, O Estadão reports.

Brazilian newspaper says the meeting will be among Mr Bolsonaro’s first tasks as president, Mr Bolsonaro having taken office only yesterday.

The report says Mr Ji attended the inauguration of the president.

Also in Mr Bolsonaro’s programme for today are meetings with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, O Estadão says.

Last November the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, reported that Mr Bolsonaro told the Chinese ambassador to Brazil that he attached great importance to Sino-Brazilian relations and considered China a partner in co-operative endeavours.
