A Sino-Mozambican cultural, art and culinary fair held in Maputo on Saturday by Mozambicans educated in China attracted hundreds of people, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Eduardo Mondlane University Confucius Institute Director Guo Jianling as saying the second China-Mozambique Cultural Exchange Fair also celebrated the start of Year of the Pig in the Chinese lunar calendar.

Ms Guo said about 5,000 Mozambicans were learning Chinese at her branch of the Confucius Institute or in Mozambican secondary schools.

The report quotes Chinese ambassador to Mozambique Su Jian as saying 500 Mozambicans are studying in China, and that they could easily get jobs in Chinese enterprises when they came home.

China and Eduardo Mondlane University are jointly building the Mozambique-China Cultural Centre in Maputo, which will have two theatres, one with 1,500 seats, making it the largest in southern Africa, Lusa quotes Mr Su as saying.
