Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro are due to meet for talks on Friday in the Japanese city of Osaka, where they will attend the meeting of heads of government of the Group of 20 (G20) countries, Reuters reports.

The news agency quotes Mr Bolsonaro’s staff as saying the meeting will last for about 40 minutes.

A Chinese diplomat in Brazil confirmed talks to schedule a meeting between the two presidents but failed to corroborate the schedule given by Mr Bolsonaro’s staff, Reuters says. The diplomat said however that any bilateral meeting would have to be brief due to the tight schedule of the G20 meeting.

On Sunday a Chinese state-run newspaper, the Global Times, quoted Brazilian Vice-President Hamilton Mourão as saying Mr Bolsonaro intended to visit China in October.
