The senior executive of Huawei Technology Co. Ltd in Brazil, Derrick Sun, has described the prospects there for fifth-generation (5G) wireless telecommunication networks as “amazing and fantastic”, Reuters reports.

The news agency quotes Mr Sun as saying so at Futurecom, a telecommunications industry event held in the Brazilian city of São Paulo on Tuesday.

Mr Sun said 56 countries had built 5G networks and 40 had begun using them, and that China’s Huawei expected over 70 countries to have allocated spectrum for 5G telecommunication by 2021.

The report says Brazil is testing 5G technology and will begin auctioning radio spectrum for 5G networks next year.

Huawei believes about 480 million households around the worldwide will have access to 5G broadband services by 2025, Reuters quotes Mr Sun as saying.
