The Portuguese government will invest €1.7 million on tourism promotion in Mainland China this year, the Jornal de Negócios reports.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, told the Portuguese parliament on Wednesday that expenses linked to promotion had increased significantly from €190,000 in 2015. A significant amount will be spent on digital marketing, including on Alibaba and on social media networks such as Weibo.
“[We] are diversifying our markets and we are making a huge bet on the direct flight,” the Portuguese newspaper reported.
Lusa reported earlier this month that Beijing Capital Airlines will start flights between the Mainland and Portugal on July 26.
