The Portuguese government wants more Mainland Chinese investment in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors, the Lusa news agency reports.

The report quotes Portugal’s Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva, who says most Mainland investment is for the long term and directed to the energy, banking and insurance sectors.

He made the comments at the opening session of a conference to mark the 30th anniversary of the Joint Declaration on the Question of Macau.

He told the conference the Sino-Portuguese relationship was “more advanced than five or 10 years ago”.

In the Portuguese-speaking Countries, he said both Portugal and the Mainland could regard themselves as investment partners, and they are working towards deeper bilateral ties elsewhere in Africa.
