Mainland Chinese economy grew by 6.7 pct in 2016

China’s economy grew by 6.7 percent last year, the rate of growth falling within the range of 6.5 percent to 7 percent forecast by the Government, Xinhua reports.

The government-run news agency, citing data from the National Bureau of Statistics, says gross domestic product was 74.41 trillion yuan (US$10.83 trillion) last year.

The report quotes National Bureau of Statistics Commissioner Ning Jizhe as describing last year’s rate of growth last year as medium to high.

It was the slowest annual rate of growth recorded in 26 years and comes on the back of 6.9 percent growth in 2015.
