The city of Zhuhai, in China’s Guangdong province, wants to establish closer co-operation with Brazil and other Latin American nations.

Zheng Renhao, Mayor of Zhuhai, made the comments during a round table discussion for young entrepreneurs from China and Latin America. The meeting was held in the city on Sunday, reported Chinese official newspaper China Daily.

Approximately 200 delegates attended the event; about half coming from Latin American countries, including Brazil.

Mr Zheng stated that Zhuhai was seeking to strengthen co-operation with Latin American and Caribbean countries in fields such as trade, investment and finance. In order to achieve that, the city was taking advantage of the close relations neighbouring Macao has with Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries, the official added, quoted by China Daily.

Investment from Zhuhai in Brazil includes a manufacturing facility of Gree Electric Appliances, a Chinese supplier of air conditioning products. Among the investments made in the opposite direction, Brazilian iron-ore pellet producer Vale SA in 2006 set up a joint venture operation in Zhuhai.
