Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal (EDP) plans to expand its partnership with its shareholder, state-run power company China Three Gorges, said António Mexia, EDP’s chief executive, last week.

“There are some markets where we clearly have the same vision, and this allows us to have a good partnership in the future,” Mr Mexia said, quoted by news agency Reuters. “Brazil is an example.”

According to the media outlet, China Three Gorges has linked with the Portuguese firm for some hydroelectric and wind projects in Brazil.

In 2011, China Three Gorges has pledged to invest 2 billion euros (US$2.27 billion) for stakes in EDP projects when it acquired a 21.35-percent stake in the company, the report said.

The pledges would be fulfilled by year-end through the participation of China Three Gorges in some projects in France and Britain, Mr Mexia said.
