Angola has appointed former lawyer, Valter Filipe Duarte da Silva, as the new governor of its central bank. It is part of a cabinet reshuffle, news agency Reuters reported.

The President’s Office of Angola made the announcement on Saturday, after the resignation of José Pedro de Morais, who had led the central bank for only 14 months. During that time, a slumping oil price had hurt the nation’s economy, the report said.

Mr da Silva was previously a legal advisor in the Vice-President’s Office, Reuters added.

Other posts involved in the cabinet reshuffle included: the ministers of culture; of commerce; of health; of urbanisation and housing; several departmental secretaries; and governors of provinces.
