The Government of Cape Verde has named the team that will lead the country’s recently formed gaming regulator, according to online news portal Macauhub.
The body – Inspeção Geral de Jogos, or IGJ under its Portuguese-language acronym – will be led by José Monteiro as Inspector-General, according to an order from Cape Verde’s Minister of Tourism, Investments and Business Development.
The new supervisory body was created in 2014, with the aim of overseeing future tourism development projects including ones with casinos, said the media outlet.
Macau businessman David Chow is developing a 250-million euros (US$273.7-million) resort, set to open in 2018 at Santa Maria Islet. It includes a casino.
According to Macauhub, the IGJ team will develop a legal framework and procedures related to gaming activities in the country.
Mr Monteiro is supported by assistant directors. Collectively they are members of the Gambling Regulators European Forum of the European Union, Macauhub said.
The news portal added the team has gained experience in the field of gaming through training in Portugal and in Macau.
