A group of Chinese businessmen is in Guinea Bissau to sign a series of deals including a plan to build a hospital and plan to a hotel in the African nation’s capital, Bissau.

The delegation of the Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been in the country since October 1, following an invitation from Guinea Bissau’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Services.

The Vice President of the Guinean association, Mama Samba Embalo, said – as quoted by newspaper A Bola’s ‘África’ edition – the hotel is likely to be called the “Presidential Hotel” and that building work was expected to start “soon”.

Mr Embalo – speaking after a meeting with the Chinese mission and the President of Guinea Bissau, José Mário Vaz – also said China plans to build a hospital in Bissau.

Agreements to be signed during the Chinese delegation’s visit also cover construction of social housing and roads, and services related to the import and distribution of medicines, said Li Gui Xiang, President of the Chinese association, on her arrival in Bissau.

“We want to help the President [of Guinea Bissau] create jobs for Guinean people,” Ms Li said, as quoted by Angolan news agency Angop.

The Chinese association also aims to build an industrial park in the African nation, Angop added.
