Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Kátia Abreu, on Wednesday announced that China is ready to approve imports of Brazilian dairy products, reported Brasil, the latter country’s news agency.
The Minister said that Brazilian companies would soon gain access to the Chinese market, especially for the sale of milk powder, cheese and butter.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Ms Abreu said she would visit China in October to sign an agreement with her Chinese counterpart.
China is the world’s largest buyer of dairy products, with imports worth US$6.4 billion in 2014, according to figures quoted by news agency Brasil.
Ms Abreu additionally said that Brazilian companies would also increase exports of dairy products to Russia.
“We have opened two of the biggest markets for dairy products” for Brazilian companies,” said Brazil’s Secretary of Agribusiness International Relations, Tatiana Palermo, quoted by the same media outlet.
“All companies interested in exporting [to these markets], and that meet the criteria to do so, will be approved,” added Ms Palermo.
