Chinese company plans to invest R$ 2.5 billion in solar energy in RN

The Chinese group CITIC Group Corporation is negotiating the acquisition and construction of a solar energy project in the municipality of Assu, Rio Grande do Norte (RN). The general manager and the investment analyst met with the governor Fátima Bezerra and her team on the 16th of June to discuss the investment, which will amount to R$ 2.5 billion.

Acorrding to the government, the works are expected to start in November 2023 with more than 600 MWp of installed power. This is the Chinese company’s first investment in the Northeast.

“The project is very large, and the construction period is also long, it is almost three years of implementation. This has an important impact on the local economy because there is a movement not only in the generation of jobs but in the in the infrastructure part to meet a project of this type”, explains Hugo Fonseca, coordinator of Energy Development for the State of Rio Grande do Norte.
