Mozambique’s gross domestic product (GDP) at market prices grew 5.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2015, Mozambican newspaper Folha de Maputo reported, quoting official data.
Mozambique’s National Statistics Institute said – as quoted by the news outlet – that first quarter growth was mainly triggered by a positive performance in the industrial sector, with output expanding by 8.2 percent in year-on-year terms.
A higher agricultural and mining output – up by 7.7 percent – also helped fuel the overall GDP growth, the statistics Institute explained.
The agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting sector accounted for 22.7 percent of the country’s GDP in the year’s first quarter of 2015, making it the largest economic sector in Mozambique.
