The Chinese automobile company, BYD, made official the purchase of a Ford automobile plant in Camaçari in the state of Bahia on the 4th of July. The announcement ceremony, which took place in the capital of Bahia, was attended by Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and top executives of the Chinese automaker.
The contract foresees an investment of R$ 3 billion for the construction of three units within the complex that will be responsible for producing cars, trucks and buses and for processing lithium and iron phosphate cells.
In the first phase, the production capacity is estimated at 150,000 units per year, possibly reaching 300,000 units that can be exported to other Latin American countries and even to Europe. The three plants are expected to generate more than 5 thousand jobs and will be inaugurated simultaneously in the second half of 2024.
