Portugal’s Secretary of State for Food and Agri-food Research Nuno Vieira e Brito on Wednesday started a visit to China. He is the second Portuguese government representative to visit the country this month.

Mr Brito’s trip includes stops in Shanghai, Beijing and Macau, meeting with officials from several Chinese government bodies, including the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, to “discuss cooperation”, the Chinese Embassy in Portugal said in a statement.

The beginning of his visit coincided with the end of an eight-day trip to China of Portuguese Secretary of State for Economy Leonardo Mathias, which Mr Mathias described as “constructive”.

Portuguese news agency Lusa reported Portuguese Secretary of State for Finance Manuel Rodrigues was also in China on April 27 and 28 to attend a meeting of the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Beijing. The European nation and other 56 countries have joined the newly established lender as founding members.
