China and Mozambique on Monday made an agreement to deepen cultural bilateral co-operation, the Chinese Embassy in the African country said in a statement.

The pact was signed by the Chinese Ambassador in Mozambique, Li Chunhua, and Mozambique’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Silva Dunduro.

The agreement was signed in Mozambique’s capital, Maputo. The Embassy note did not include details on the content of the agreement.

Mr Li was quoted as saying that the signing of the agreement had “great importance” in boosting mutual friendship and understanding, as well as “facilitating mutual development”.

Cultural exchanges and co-operation on training between China and Mozambique have been helping to foster cultural development in the African country, Mr Dunduro said.

In February, the two countries signed an agreement worth US$50 million for the construction of a Mozambique-China Cultural Centre in Maputo.
