The Macao Government says it will “actively participate” in the “One Belt, One Road” initiative proposed by China.
“One Belt, One Road” refers to the China-lead Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Maritime Silk Road, which aim to strengthen China’s relations with other countries and regions. Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the concept in 2013.
Over 50 countries have already expressed interest in taking part in this initiative.
Over the weekend, the Chinese Government released more details on the project. It stated that it would help “deepen the cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan” by utilising “the unique roles of the Hong Kong and Macao SARs”.
Macao’s Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said in a statement that the city will “actively participate” in the “One Belt, One Road”.
Mr Chui added that Macao would make use of its role as a service platform between China and Portuguese speaking-Countries to promote the successful implementation of the initiative.
