To strengthen the economic and trade exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and further Macao’s role as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), Mr Ding Tian, led a delegation to participate in the 2nd China International Import Expo (CIIE) between November 5 to 7 in Shanghai. The delegation also visited the “Macao Hub” and other exhibition areas at CIIE, and took part in the “Macao Investment Cooperation Forum – Promotion for the Platform Services of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”.

The 2nd CIIE opened on November 5 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (Shanghai). CIIE, co-organised by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government, is the world’s first import-themed, national-level expo. At the same time, it is also an important gateway between China and the rest of the world. Macao was represented at CIIE via two pavilions, illustrating the city’s role as “One Centre” and “One Platform”.

The “Macao Investment Cooperation Forum – Promotion for the Platform Services of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” took place in the afternoon of November 6 at the Radisson Exhibition Centre Shanghai. It was organised by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government; the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute; and the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao.

More than 200 guests attended the cooperation forum, including the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Mr Leong Vai Tac; the Secretary-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Mr Wang Xindong; and the Portuguese Consul-General in Shanghai, Mr Israel Saraiva. The cooperation forum aimed to present to the audience the positioning and advantages of Macao as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

A total of four collaboration projects was signed during the cooperation forum, covering finance, agriculture, trade in products from Portuguese-speaking Countries, and investment.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, Mr Ding said in his speech that Macao had now a more important role in supporting the participation of Portuguese-speaking Countries in the “Belt and Road” initiative and in terms of Macao’s contribution to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Macao had also been strengthening its positioning as a “One Centre, One Platform, One Base”, and taking advantage of the opportunities arising from the development of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Corridor.

The Permanent Secretariat will continue to enhance the mechanism of Forum Macao and to promote the construction of the “One Platform” policy, and to contribute to the implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle.
