The Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Mozambique, Mr Ragendra de Sousa, visited on October 19 the headquarters of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao. He was accompanied by the Ambassador to Beijing of Mozambique, Ms Maria Gustava. Other members of the visiting party included: the Consul-General of Mozambique in Macao, Mr Rafael Marques; the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Mozambique in Beijing, Mr António Rodrigues; and Advisor to the Minister of Industry and Commerce Lionel Biosse. Mozambique’s Representative at Forum Macao, Francisca Reino, was also in attendance.

During the visit, the Secretary-General of Forum Macao, Ms Xu Yingzhen, provided a brief introduction about the work of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao; i.e., the promotion of cooperation between the involved parties. She also briefed Mr Sousa about the role of Macao as an economic platform to complement bilateral cooperation. Ms Xu further stressed the need to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Promoting Co-operation in Production Capacity, signed between the Participating Countries in Forum Macao in 2016; she additionally invited Mozambique’s authorities to submit projects to Forum Macao for promotion purposes.

Mr Sousa expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome by the Forum Macao representatives, and said he was pleased to join activities hosted by the Macao SAR aimed at promoting more direct exchanges between firms from China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, based on Macao’s role as a platform. He said Mozambique’s Government would continue to support the work of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, in order to maximise cooperation opportunities made available by Forum Macao.

Both parties also exchanged views on potential cooperation in several areas.
