Chinese automaker Chery's first plant in Brazil was inaugurated on June 28 in Jacareí. In its first year of operation, the plant will have 500 workers and is expected to reach 3,000. 

The Chery Group has invested 400 million dollars in the Jacareí plant, which will be located on a one million square meter site. The first model to be produced at the plant is the Celer. It is expected that 50,000 vehicles will be produced per year, rising to 150,000 in the second year of operation.

An investment of 130 million dollars is also being made in an engine factory, Acteco, next to Chery.

It's no coincidence that Chery chose Brazil as its first plant outside China. The Brazilian market is the fourth largest in the world, has the most expensive cars and the sector has the full support of the federal government, such as a reduction in the IPI tax, the release of credit for vehicle purchases, lines of financing and other benefits.
