Brazil’s commodity price index recorded a monthly drop of 5.14 percent in January.

The index is compiled on a monthly basis by the country’s central bank.

The commodity price index was down 1.37 percent for the 12 months ended in January in comparison with the prior-year period.

The January drop was mainly triggered by a 15.56-percent month-on-month decrease in the sub-index for energy, which includes oil, natural gas and coal. Prices for agricultural commodities and metals were also down from December, according to Brazil’s central bank.

The commodity price index is based on a basket of international commodities most relevant to Brazilian consumer prices.
