Automaker BYD has been making its way in Brazil with ambitious goals. Importing models from China to Brazil since the end of 2021, the company took ninth place in the number of cars sold in the country in April, with 6,965 units sold.

Now, with the factory in the city of Camaçari, Bahia, acquired from Ford, the Chinese want to become the third largest automaker in sales in the country by 2028. To achieve this figure, the automaker needs to sell 350,000 cars a year.

"Internally, we have two stages of production in Camaçari. The first stage is to manufacture 150,000 cars. In a second stage, we want to increase this to 300,000. Production will start at the end of the year so that by the middle of the year it will be 100% consolidated," says Alexandre Baldi, special advisor to BYD do Brasil.

In an interview with IstoÉ Dinheiro, she also said that the company will launch three more models in Brazil this year: the BYD Shark, an SUV and a sedan.
