China is willing to work with Brazil in numerous areas to advance their bilateral ties Chinese official news agency Xinhua reported, quoting China’s President Xi Jinping. He described those ties as “a luxuriant tree”, Xinhua additionally said.
Mr Xi met with his Brazilian counterpart, Dilma Rousseff, on Thursday on the sidelines of the 7th BRICS Summit held in Russia. BRICS refers to a bloc of five emerging economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
China-Brazil ties had developed rapidly over the years and the two countries had become “good friends” and “good partners”, Mr Xi said.
“[China] always attaches great importance to and advances the China-Brazil ties from a strategic height,” the Chinese President was quoted as saying.
“China is willing to work together with Brazil to cement multi-faceted exchanges; constantly improve economic and trade co-operation; optimise trade structure; facilitate constant and stable growth of bilateral trade; [and] enhance industrial investment co-operation”, Mr Xi added.
Ms Rousseff said both China and Brazil should make joint efforts to implement the consensus reached. They should “continue to boost co-operation on trade, investment, finance, technology, astronautics, education, agricultural products, new energy, aircraft manufacturing and infrastructure construction,” she added.
In May, Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang, visited Brazil. Both sides signed 35 investment and financing deals worth US$53 billion.
