Electricity distribution facilities installed with Chinese financial help have connected about 3,200 families in the Talatona district of Luanda to the public power supply, Angop reports.
The Angolan state-run news agency says the seven electrical substations are the result of the first stage of a project to install 1,000 substations with a combined capacity of 1,000 kVA to supply to several parts of Luanda with electricity, including over 40,000 households in Talatona alone.
The report quotes a Talatona municipal official, Njila de Carvalho, as saying the project will greatly benefit local people.
The newly connected households previously depended on expensive private suppliers of electricity, or on costly-to-run generators.
Money for the project comes from a US$675 million line of credit arranged by China, Angop says.
