The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Community Party, has launched a Portuguese version of its news portal, available on http://Portuguese.people.cn.

The website was launched on January 8 and provides news on China, including on politics, the economy and current affairs, the newspaper said in a statement.

The website “will strive to create a new platform of understanding and communication between Internet users in China and in Portuguese-speaking countries including Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique”.

It “will open a new chapter in cultural exchanges” between the two sides, added the statement.

People’s Daily Online now offers services in nine foreign languages – English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Korean, German and Portuguese.

Two other Chinese state-run media – news agency Xinhua and China Radio International – also provide news in Portuguese.
