The operators of the southern Chinese port of Guangzhou and the southern Brazilian port of Açu agreed on Wednesday to a twinning arrangement, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says representatives of the port operators signed an agreement on the twinning arrangement at the International Association of Ports and Harbors’ World Ports Conference, held this week in Guangzhou.

The report quotes Porto de Açu Operações SA Chief Commercial Officer Tessa Major as saying her company would like to exchange more information with the operator of the port of Guangzhou so it could learn from its Chinese counterpart.

“Chinese ports have become a benchmark in the fields of port infrastructure, logistics and management experience,” she said.

The Chinese One Belt, One Road initiative is breathing new life into world trade, and the port of Açu would like to co-operate with more Chinese ports, Xinhua quotes Ms Major as saying.
