Mayor José Luís Santos of the Cabo Verdean island of Boavista and a party of fellow islanders is due to arrive today in Jiangsu province’s Rudong for the signing tomorrow of a document providing for a twinning arrangement between Boavista and the eastern Chinese city, RTC reports.

The Cabo Verdean public television station says the document to be signed on Saturday covers exchanges in the fields of sport, education and urban planning, and exchanges among young people.

The report quotes Mr Santos as saying he will also look for Chinese investment in housing on Boavista to ease the shortage of homes on the island.

A Chinese company recently bid for the contracts to rehabilitate two beaches on the island and part of the seat of the local government, the city of Vila de Sal Rei, RTC says.
