Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said his government supports the Angolan government strategy of industrialising the Angolan economy and making it more diverse, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes Mr Wang as saying so in a joint press conference in Luanda with his Angolan counterpart, Manuel Domingos Augusto.

The Sino-Angolan relationship is a fine example of what mutually beneficial co-operation by China and Africa can achieve, the report quotes Mr Wang as saying.

He called for even more such co-operation, Xinhua says.

Separately, Lusa reports that the Chinese minister is unworried by Angolan indebtedness to China.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Wang as saying: “Like any developing country at an early stage of its economic development, it is only natural that it wants more funding.”

He said China had supported the building or rehabilitation of over 20,000km of road and 2,800km of railway, and of schools, hospitals and public housing in Angola, according to Lusa.
