Mozambique has approved a law that eases restrictions on investment visas, the Mozambican news agency AIM reports.

Overseas investors with a minimum of US$500,000 to invest are now eligible for a business visa, said Ana Comoana, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism. The limit was previously US$50 million.

“If the required minimum investment is high, there will be few who can invest in our country but if we lower the bar we will probably have a higher number of investors,” Ms Comoana was quoted as saying.

In addition, under the revised rules, a visa valid for two entries can now be obtained at border crossings by any visitor. Visas on arrival were previously only available to visitors from countries that did not have Mozambique diplomatic representation.
