About 82 million yuan (US$12.3 million) has been provided by China to fund development projects in Guinea-Bissau, reports the Macauhub news website.

Guinea-Bissau’s Ambassador to China, Malam Sambu, reportedly told Macauhub the funds may go towards construction of a social housing project.

Mr Sambu said Chinese investors also wanted land on which to build a processing plant for the China National Fisheries Corp subsidiary Conapemac, and to establish a duty-free port zone with schools, roads and a hospital in the country’s northern Biombo region.

Mr Sambu said agriculture, fisheries and tourism attracted most investment from Mainland China into the West African country.
