The Angolan Government has awarded five new public works projects – worth in total US$163.5 million – to Chinese firms, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported last week. The schemes are under a credit line scheme provided by China.

Citing Angolan presidential orders issued last week, the media outlet reported the new projects included two water supply schemes granted to state-owned China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), worth a total of US$35.8 million.

Lusa had reported that China agreed last year to offer Angola a US$5.2-billion credit line for 155 projects in the African nation, creating approximately 365,000 jobs.

Under the credit line arrangement, the Angolan Government has since May approved 74 projects with an aggregate value of US$3.96 billion, the report said.
