China has offered 250 solar-powered street lamps for use in Guinea-Bissau’s capital, Bissau, online news portal Macauhub reported on Wednesday.

The city’s mayor, Adriano Ferreira, made the announcement. He was speaking after a meeting with a technical team from China, according to the media outlet.

The Chinese technicians are in the African nation to install an electricity supply grid in Bissau and in other locations, the news portal said. The initiative resulted from an agreement signed between the two countries. The deal has now entered its second phase.

Mr Ferreira said ­– as quoted by Macauhub – the shipment of the 250 lamp posts with solar-powered lights was on its way to the African nation and should arrive to Bissau within two weeks.
